Pick Me, Choose Me, Love Me!

Pick Me, Choose Me, Love Me!

Romance novels, romance-filled movies and TV episodes are something I, personally, love to follow. I'm such hopeless romantic when it comes to couples and relationships that I read about or watch on a screen. A couple that I have followed since the beginning is Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy. A famous line from their relationship on the show is when Meredith is pleading with Derek to be with her over someone else, leading to the line,

“pick me, choose me, love me”.

Whether we want to admit it or not, we have been there. It could have been publicly trying to get someone’s attention with how we act or how we dress. Or maybe it's been privately praying to God so that so-and-so would pay attention to us. We want someone to “pick us”, to “choose us”, to “love us”. We get caught up in looking to find our satisfaction in being chosen by someone of this world. We fight to have affection, to feel loved.

Sometimes this leads us to lower ourselves to find it. We get caught up in the love stories provided to us by the world we live in and look past the one that has already been given to us [Click to tweet]. We want this modern day prince to come in on a white horse to save us when in reality that Prince came over 2000 years ago carrying a wooden cross…

He picked YOU.

He chose YOU.

He loves YOU.

And unlike Meredith, who at one point pleaded for love, you have never had to plead with Him to do this. He just does. Sometimes Satan tries to fill our head with lies saying we are never good enough, God could never have picked us, or chosen us, or love us. But God's given us proof of these in His word to prove to us otherwise.

You were picked.

“But when God, who picked me out before I was born and called me by his grace” - Galatians 1:15

“Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world” - Ephesians 1:4

Before we even knew Him, He picked us.

You were chosen.

“You did not choose me, but I chose you” - John 15:16

“I have chosen you and have not rejected you” - Isaiah 41:19

We, sinners, didn't deserve to be chosen or picked but even when we haven't picked Him first, or have went against Him. He chose us.

You are loved.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,” - John 3:16

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” - Romans 5:8

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 8:38-39

We've probably heard “God loves us” many times, maybe not, but we should. Christ died for you and me, knowing we were sinners, knowing our future sins.

Maybe you still haven't opened up to Him to receive His love. Maybe you're still not living right. But guess what, Jesus, God still loves you and will always love you, even though we don't deserve it. Stop searching, stop looking for a love that will never satisfy and finally open up to a love that began long before you ever existed.

God picked you. God chose you. God loves you. [Click to tweet]
