Devotional: Check Yourself

Often times we FEEL like we’re in dry seasons, as if God hasn’t given us everything we need to begin with (He has). Everything feels off, totally out of the ordinary, and you ask God, “Where are you and why do I feel this way?” It is inevitable that we as believers will go through trials, persecution, and many troubles, but dry seasons? Not so ordinary. This may be a little different, but bear with me.

Psalms 1:2-3 says, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither, And whatever he does shall prosper.”

This scripture was written about a believer whose whole heart, soul, and mind is captivated by Jesus. Everything this specific believer does is in perfect alignment with God, because like stated, “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season.” This is the outcome of his obedience; delight in the law of the Lord, and how the believer spends time with God day and night. When you are in alignment with God, you begin to become fruitful in the Lord’s eyes, and your Spirit LOVES it.

You see dry seasons are the outcome of stepping out of alignment with God. It is a season where we must sit back and evaluate ourselves. If you notice, the more you tend to intentionally sin, the farther God seems. Some often say dry seasons are the result of God testing your faith, which can also be the case, but you must ALWAYS check your alignment with God. Every day I recommit myself to Jesus and ask Him to forgive my sins, because I do not deserve His grace and mercy, but He hands it to me anyway, that’s OUR GOD! When we are not in sync with God and abandon fellowship with Him, our lives tend to seem incredibly dry. Are we living the way God calls us to or are we walking in our own twisted form of Christianity?

A little word of encouragement for those enduring a season as such, you are not alone, but check your walk! Ask God to reveal to you what it is that is drawing you back from Him, and trust that He will show you. The enemy will certainly try to keep you from God, but ALWAYS do what the enemy is trying to keep you from. Jesus came to give us life and life abundantly (John10: 10), you have been set free, beautiful child of God. God will never forsake you nor abandon you, because He loves you THAT much and He is faithful. Don’t let your feelings of dryness rob you of the real and true joy Jesus has given you, CHOOSE IT.

“And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” (Colossians 1:21-23)
